I have always worked in watercolor. Sometimes as an exploratory sketch medium, sometimes with a finished piece in mind. I like the way you have to think it through before you start, protecting your lightest areas as you work towards the dark; just the opposite of the way oil paint is applied. Always working without a net; accidents can often add to the image.
